We, the Murray family do, along with a small team of studio assistants. Our products are designed and manufactured in our studio on the Mornington Peninsula, across the bay from Melbourne. We are committed to using Australian suppliers and where possible, source recycled and local materials. Buttonworks is registered with the Australian Made, Australian Grown Campaign, and is licensed to use the Australian Made logo on our products. What timbers do we use in our products?
We use several species of sustainably harvested Australian timbers, including Blackwood, Tasmanian Oak, Jarrah and Myrtle. Our timbers are sustainably harvested and genuinely Australian. We create our products from Australian timbers because they are a local, natural and renewable resource. Veneered timbers maximise these natural resources. We use veneered timbers with a formaldehyde free certified craftwood substrate to create our products. We aim to pack orders with a variety of timbers. It is important to remember that the same timber can vary from tree to tree in grain, texture and colour. Are our products safe to send/ take overseas?
Yes, the timbers we use are safe to send or take overseas because they have been processed and sealed. In fact our products are designed to be lightweight and easy to carry or post making them an ideal gift. Due to the manufacturing process the timber goes through our products are deemed low risk for importation concerns. What happens if liquid is spilled on our products?
All of our timbers have been sealed and varnished, which helps protect them from water marking or staining. Wipe spills off the timber and we recommend the occasional application of a vegetable oil to help protect it. Are our products safe for children?
It is of the upmost importance to us that our products are useable and safe. The raw materials we use including timbers, inks and sealants are safe and non-toxic. We work with Greenguard eco inks, non toxic sealants and formaldehyde free timbers. Our children’s range products meet the AS/NZS ISO safety standards and the materials we use are toxin free.
